I first started the business in 2006 at the age of 21 after leaving my current beauty therapist job at a salon in Nantwich. I had no experience in running my own business and after just passing my driving test I did think about doing treatments in peoples houses, but my mum and dad had a little annexe on the side of the house which I thought I would try and start working from. Whilst debating on which direction to lead the business in a part time therapist job come up at Alvaston Hall Hotel so I went for an interview and got the job. I ran this job alongside my start up business for just under a year and then decided to go full time working at my then home (parents home).
How I came up with the business name
I was chatting with my family about what I wanted the business to be called & bouncing a few names around when my sister came up with Pretty & Pampered. This I thought was perfect as I was trying to imagine how I would want customers to feel after they had had their treatment and left the salon. Now I have been open 10 years i have changed the business name slightly to Pretty and Pampered Skin & Beauty Clinic, this was due to a refurbishment and taking on NEW skin treatments in the salon.
How we where back in 2006
Well I was a lot younger to start with but just to give you an indicator on my price range from way back then – a file & polish on fingers or toes was just £5 and an eyebrow wax was £4.50. My then skin care brand was Dermalogica for facials and OPI for nails. And would you believe it there was no Gel Polish (shellac) back then (how did we survive without it). At first my main treatments that I carried out were massages and facials and when the recession hit back in 2010 my main focus switched to nails. This was also when the Gel Polish hit the market so I went on my shellac training in early 2011 and then my business became very very busy with shellac.
Break from the business between 2011 & 2012
Many of my long standing customers will know that I have had a break in the business when my niece was diagnosed with Leukaemia and to work in another salon part time in Sandbach – Angel Beauty Boutique, i learnt a lot from this lady, thank you Katie Bell you were fabulous. These breaks in the business allowed me to take a step back and re-evaluate the business and where I wanted to be headed with it.
Present Day – Exciting things ahead…..
After recently having some time off in March 2016 after having my daughter and returning to work in September I wanted a fresh look for the salon, so we had a refurbishment and changed a couple of things that I felt were important to me after returning to work after 6 months off. My Skin & Beauty Clinic is now Baby Friendly which means customers can bring their little ones along to their appointment. I have also added a NEW & exciting Treatment to the Clinics price list-Oxygen Facials and I hope to add many more NEW treatments this year and next.
Whilst I enjoy making peoples nails pretty my passion is Skin Health and Massage, so my aim in 2017 is to concentrate on making people’s skin perfect and ironing out everybody’s kinks in their muscles. I will also hopefully be introducing another Nail Specialist to take over nails by Springtime this year.
In the mean time I look forward to seeing NEW and OLD customers in the salon whether you have a baby in tow or not.
